Calling overseas
The ability to dial directly overseas may not be available in all exchanges. If you find that you can not dial directly in your exchange, there are two options for making an overseas call:
- Direct dial: Simply dial 011 + country code + city/area code + local phone number. The charge will appear on your phone bill just like other regular long distance calls. The ability to dial directly overseas may not be available in all exchanges.
- Operator-assisted: Simply dial 0 + area code + local number + 0 (at the prompts)
Operators will be pleased to help you. When you require assistance placing your call, please be ready to state:
- what type of call you are making
- the number you are calling
- the phone or calling card number to be billed
Offer your name if you are calling collect or want the call billed to a third number. When making a call that requires operator assistance, a surcharge is added (see chart below). The operator can quote the rate that will apply to your call.
